Brian Owens’ Marvin Gaye tribute album, “You’re All I Need – Brian Owens Sings Marvin Gaye” has been officially released Japan-wide on April 5th, 2014 in the run up to his Japan live performance debut at Blue Note Tokyo. Known as the new voice of American soul, and often compared to the late Marvin Gaye, Brian along with Nao Yoshioka, Japan’s new soul music sensation, will perform two sets at both the Tokyo Blue Note (May 1st) and at the Nagoya Blue Note (May 2nd).
St. Louis-born Brian has continually been on a mission to create unique, classic soul and has set about on a series of concert series’ focused on the music of legends such as Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, and Johnny Cash. For his Marvin Gaye tribute, Brian combined 8 studio recorded songs and 5 songs recorded live at the Sheldon Concert Hall in St. Louis in August 2013.
This tribute is the second phase of the “Make the Change Project,” a SWEET SOUL RECORDS initiative which connects soul artists from different countries, and encourages spreading real music through collaborations. The songs “You’re All I Need” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” included on the tribute album are duets between Brian and Nao.
The studio recorded songs include the classics “What’s Goin’ On,” and “Let’s Get It On” with live versions of “What’s Happening Brother” and “Inner City Blues,” songs that made Marvin a legend around the world.
During the studio recording band members included Gregory Porter’s bassist, and album mastered by the renown Blue Jade Audio Mastering of St. Louis resulting in the best possible production of these classic songs. The legacy of Marvin Gaye is alive and well with this special soulful release. Throughout Japan, soul music lovers will experience the recreated sound of a legend by one of today’s most promising young and talented soul artist.
