日本人ソウルシンガーNao Yoshiokaが、4/14にイギリスのTHE HIDEWAY Jazz Clubで公演を行うことが決定した。また、iTunesでも『The Light』が解禁となり、昨年のアメリカデビューに続いてヨーロッパで一番の音楽大国イギリスでの活動も本格化しそうだ。
THE HIDEWAY Jazz Clubはロンドンにあるベニューで、今年のGREENROOM FESTIVALにも出演が発表されたレジェンドOmarなども公演を行う場所。同ベニューのサイト内では「Soultracksアワードを獲得した日本のソウルミュージックシーンの代表」と紹介されており、彼女のイギリスデビューは現地でも注目を集めることになりそうだ。
Nao Yoshiokaは今回の公演に際し2週間ほどのプロモーションツアーも計画中。オランダでのCandy Dulferとの共演やアメリカでのJose James、Gordon Chambersらとの出会いなどと同様に、今回のツアーでも現地から届く快挙の報告に期待したい。

ニューヨークにあるソウルの殿堂アポロシアターで行われた「アマチュアナイト」で準優勝、日本人シンガーとしては異例のトップドッグまで勝ち上がり、更にアメリカ最大規模のゴスペルフェスティバルでは 40,000 人の中からファイナリストに選出された経験を持つ実力派逆輸入ソウルシンガー。 2013年に『The Light』でデビュー、2015年には『Rising』でメジャーデビューを果たし、SUMMER SONICなどのフェスへも出演。更に2015年7月に『The Light』で全米デビューし、ブルーノートニューヨークでの公演も行うなど活躍の場を世界に広げている。
Nao Yoshioka combines a powerful voice and New York-powered delivery to create a modern taste still deeply rooted in the history of soul. Since her single “Make the Change” was released by SWEET SOUL RECORDS in 2012, she has been dubbed the Japanese ALICIA KEYS while also receiving praise from Grammy-winning artist GORDON CHAMBERS.
In May 2014 Nao and Brian Owens, who is also the producer of her song “Spend My Life,” made their Blue Note Tokyo debut, taking their place amongst the many talented artists from around the world who have graced that sacred stage, and exceptionally early in her young career… only 6 months after her album debut.
Since then Nao has gone on to perform at a number of well-known venues including the Blue Note (NY), the legendary Birchmere (DC) where she opened for José James, and Club Dauphine in The Netherlands where she shared the stage with saxophonist Candy Dulfer.
In Japan she headlined a sold out Blue Note Tokyo, performed at the Summer Sonic festival, and guested with bassist Nathan East at Billboard Live Tokyo. And to top it off, she was named SoulTracks’ 2015 New Artist of the Year, the first for a Japanese singer.
